Ok :) Many of you may know, that I'm a big fan of J-Drama/K-Drama/T-Drama :) That' why I thought I should recommend some of them^^
The first I want to present you is Nankyoku Tairiku
Title: 南極大陸～神の領域に挑んだ男と犬の物語～ Title (romaji): Nankyoku Tairiku ~Kami no Ryouiki ni Idomunda Otoko to Inu no Monogatari~ Title (English): Antarctica ~The Story of Dogs and Men Who Challenged the Field of God~ Genre: Drama, adventure Episodes: 10
Story centers around Japan's first Antarctic research exploration team based at the Showa Station. In February 1957, a Japanese Antarctic research exploration team, of 11 members, is sent to the South Pole for the first time in a national project to explore Antartica. The protagonist is Takeshi Kuramochi (played by Takuya Kimura) is responsible for the dogsled of 19 Sakhalin dogs. After a year, the exploration team is ordered to withdraw from the Antarctic station due to severe weather conditions. The dogs have to be left behind.
I just finished the 8th episode of the Drama, and I have to say: I never saw such a great film! I know the american move "Eight below" with a plot similar to this and thought Nankyoku Tairiku would be good as well, maybe not so great as Eight below, but nice to see ;D But I was wrong! It's much better. I never saw dogs acting so well!! and I know lot's of dog movies ;D The music is really touching, making my heart move. The actors as well, especially Takuya Kimura, did a great job! They acted so emotional, that it actually made me cry, really, it's not just one part...it's nearly every episode you have to get your hopes and down. I really hated for example Haruhiko Himuro (played by Masato Sakai) at the beginning, because he was always against the protagonist, even if they were good friends before. But due to a climbing accident years ago, that made them both loose a friend, they didn't get along so well anymore. He also thought that the dogs weren't part of the team and could easily be abandoned, but the dogs saved his life, making him see that they were not just dogs, but very important members of the Antarctic research exploration team.
I only can recommend this drama for everyone who is interested in storys of proving oneself to the world or animal movies... you will like it for sure. It actually has only japanese dub, but there are english subtitles available, and for those, who aren't used to that, it isn't so difficult as you think. It will take a bit time to get used to it, but after some episodes you're so into the movie, that you won't realise anymore that it's actually a different language ;) so try out this great drama!!
